It’s a broadband network that runs on the Telstra Mobile Network. You'll need a mobile internet device, either a mobile broadband Wi-Fi device, a mobile broadband dongle, a laptop or a tablet. It helps you connect to the internet where you can access the Telstra Mobile Network. Telstra pre-paid mobile broadband service allows you to buy a set amount of data and pay upfront. No lock-in contract.
Home internet connects you to the web via a fixed broadband network like ADSL, Cable, Velocity or the nbn™ network.

Mobile broadband connects you to the internet via the Telstra mobile network, which also serves mobile phones and tablets.
The maximum possible download speed that your device is capable of depends on the compatibility of your device, and whether it can connect using 4GX, 4G or 3G. These are the estimated maximum download speeds:

4GX device in a 4G coverage area – up to 300 mbps*

4G device in a 4G coverage area - up to 50 mbps *

3G coverage area - up to 20 mbps *

4GX: Typical download speeds in 4GX areas are 5 -300Mbps with category 16 devices, 5-200Mbps with category 11 devices, 5-150Mbps with category 9 devices, 2-100Mbps with category 6 devices, and 2-75Mbps with category 4 devices. Outside 4GX areas, you will switch to our fastest available 4G or 3G speeds. Speeds vary for reasons like location, distance from base stations, terrain, user numbers, hardware/software configuration, download source and upload destination.

Telstra currently offers 5G in select areas and is progressively rolling it out to other areas. In non-5G areas, you’ll automatically switch to our 4G or 3G. Check our mobile coverage.

The Telstra Mobile Network offers 4GX in all major and regional cities and in over 1,600 towns and communities around Australia. In other coverage areas around Australia, you’ll automatically switch to our fastest available 4G or 3G. Check our mobile coverage.

Telstra Pre-Paid Mobile Broadband: Roll over your unused data when you recharge $20, $30 or $50 before expiry. Any unused data will then expire at the end of the next recharge period. For use in Australia.
